About West Oaks Childcare

Local Mamas Kelsey and Tia were both born and raised in the beautiful Parksville / Qualicum Beach area. Their shared passion for supporting young minds led them straight into the childcare industry and eventually inspired them to co-found West Oaks Childcare in 2022

With the facility now thriving, they bring an incredible depth of hands-on expertise to the community. Tia offers 20 years of extensive experience managing childcare facilities across Western Canada, including Calgary, Fernie, Vancouver, and Parksville. Kelsey brings 13 years of dedicated experience to the team, having built her career from the ground up as a nanny, a summer camp leader in Fernie, and a specialist in preschool-age development.

On top of running West Oaks, Kelsey and Tia are both proud moms to two sons, giving them a firsthand understanding of what local families need. Deeply grateful for their strong community ties, they are honored to play a positive, lasting role in your children’s growth, learning, and early years.

Brought to you by trusted local leaders: Founders Kelsey and Tia are deeply committed to enriching our community’s youth year-round. In addition to West Oaks, they are the proud founders of Oaks and Embers Children’s Society, a local non-profit that runs popular, high-energy summer camps throughout the city!

River Room

Our early learners blossom though play-based experiences in welcoming, safe, and supportive spaces.

Children are free to explore and discover in small groups where teachers are partners in learning. Children will grow their confidence, creativity, independence, problem solving skills and sense of self while building community.

Pre Kindergarten

Our early learners blossom though play-based experiences in welcoming, safe, and supportive spaces.

Children are free to explore and discover in small groups where teachers are partners in learning. Children will grow their confidence, creativity, independence, problem solving skills and sense of self while building community.

  • Children aged 30 months – school age 
  • Up to 12 children
  • Up to 2 teachers 
  • 8:30 am – 2:30 pm 

(Closed on all district Pro D, Spring, Summer, Winter breaks)

After School Program

This program is primarily held outdoors. Our Learning-Through-Play philosophy is implemented in this program with a child-led learning process.

Our teachers will have a variety of activities to choose from such as Art, Games and Sports. With our location in the heart of downtown Parksville, we go on many spontaneous walking trips to local shops, the beach, and Adventure Playground

  • Kindergarten – Grade 6

Spring / Summer & Pro D Day Camps

West Oaks Childcare is proud to offer camps in both Spring and Summer as well as offering day camps on Pro D Days!

Spring/Summer Camps are a licensed Day Camp held in July and August each summer and in March for Spring.

Pro D Day Camps are a licensed Day Camp held on all Pro D Days aligned with SD 69.

  • Ages: Kindergarten-Grade 6
  • Time: 8:30am-4:30pm

West Oaks Childcare is proud to be participating in the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative. The CCFRI enhances childcare affordability by offering funding to eligible, licensed childcare providers to reduce and stabilize parents’ monthly fees. The CCFRI is currently for ages 0-Kindergarten and will expand to grades 1 and up as of September 2023.

On top of the CCFRI, West Oaks also accepts the Affordable Child Care Benefit (formally known as subsidy) to assist eligible families even further to bring down the cost of their monthly childcare fees.
